Bell Sweep XC Racing Bike Helmet

Bell Sweep XC Racing Bike Helmet
This is unquestionably the best helmet I have ever owned. It is comfortable, cool , and the fit can be made perfect. I have a very small head, and I appreciate the offering of a size S. The adjustment in the rear makes it so easy to get the perfect fit.

Product Description

The new Sweep XC picks up where its road racing brethren (the Sweep R) left off and adds Bell's Variable Position Visor (VPV) to the mix. The VPV allows for 15 degrees of vertical adjustment by using an imbedded clutch mechanism that holds the visor firmly at the desired angle, but allows for easy, on-the-fly changes. Couple this with the 20 breezy vents, Bell's signature GPS fit system, Fusion In-Mold Microshell and bottom wrap, internal reinforcements and precision graphics, and you have a helmet that's destined to go from box to podium in no time flat.

Giro Prolight Bike Helmet

Giro Prolight Bike Helmet
This is my second Giro helmet - I also have an atmos that I wear regularly.

First off, the helmet is crazy light. If you're into saving weight, then this is the helmet for you. It literally feels like nothing on your head after a little while.

In the month that I've had this helmet, I was never able to get it to fit correctly. The retention system (or lack of) does not let you adjust the tightness so there ends up being two pressure points around your temple. I found that cutting the padding near your temple, and leaving only the ones in the front of the helmet, helps with this issue. Also, when I tried the helmet at the store, even though I have a 22" head, a recommended "medium" size helmet was way too tight. A large was also fairly tight, but much more bearable. The helmet buckle does feel cheap, but I'm guessing it is that way to save weight. But even that is forgivable.

I really wished there was a way to adjust the rear elastic "giro" band that pushes your head forward into the helmet that creates these pressure points.

Giro Bell Xar All-Mountain Sport Helmet

Giro Bell Xar All-Mountain Sport Helmet
Easy dial to snug fit around my head. Some hard spots on my head but it did come with additional stick on padding. I tried this helmet at local bike shop like the fit on my melon so I bought it online. So far satisfied, will take out today in the 100 degree weather to determine it breath-ability. Had a Giro for a spare for friends who would Mt. Bike with me and it lasted so long the padding dry rotted and fell out. Thought it was time to replace and this one is it.

        Bell Volt Bike Helmet

        Bell Volt Bike Helmet
The volt is a solid helmet with abundant venting. Helmet adjustments are a snap when going from summer to fall (if you wear a head warmer). The down side to the helmets are two fold. As compared to other road bike helmet manufacturers, the Volt is a little heavy. Additionally, padding is sparse on this helmet and, depending on your head shape, you may find a contact point on the crown of your head that doesn't include any padding. Otherwise, this is a well ventilated helmet with many adjustments to fit most any head size.

        Product Description

The promise of any great helmet is that you'll forget you have it on. Bell engineers undertook that task by keeping the Volt helmet light and making sure it was ventilated. At 320g, it's one of the lightest out there. The Volt's 22 vents direct air into the helmet, over the head and out the back to keep airflow constant, just like riding sans bucket. The carbon fiber Fusion In-Mold Microshell adds carbon fiber strength to the internally reinforced EPS foam for greater durability. Cam-lock Levers make for quick strap adjustment.None of this matters if the helmet doesn't fit. Those who have a round head shape have always fared well with Bell helmets, as opposed to the more oval-fitting Giros. The addition of the TAG Fit System means riders can adjust the helmets fit around the Occipital Lobe (that bump at the back of your head) both in width and height for a more conforming fit. And if you've ever picked up your helmet and thought, "What's that smell?" you'll appreciate the X-Static Padding which combines a quick-dry material with an anti-microbial coating. Bell's most impressive achievement may be the always-right graphics package. The Bell Volt is available in 3 sizes, includes the adjustable and removable VPV Visor (and plugs, should you choose to ride without) and comes in a number of stunning finishes. Choose from Black/Carbon, Blue/White, Matte Blue/Black, Red/White, or Silver/White.

          Giro Xen Bike Helmet
This helmet is awesome! Fit is excellent if you pre-measure your head or try one on at the dealer. Nice style, coverage, and very good air-flow. I took a HUGE spill off my bike this past weekend.....a sweet superman over the bars and the first thing to hit the rocks was this helmet. I put a nice dent in the outside, cracked the helmet all the way through, but I got up and walked away with not even a headache. The helmet is finished, but my head is totally intact so I can ride another day. It did exactly what it was designed to do. Plus, if you break your helmet under normal use, Giro will kick you down 30% off of a new one. Not a bad deal when it saves your head!

          Product Description

          Product Description

Drag is the technical term for friction built as an object moves through air. Drag can be reduced by smooth and aerodynamic lines and the Bell Slant bicycle helmet, as you might guess, is built with a slanting shape that helps reduce drag. In addition to this technical prowess, the Slant has been given a Blade Visor and Fusion In-Mold Microshell. But most importantly, the Slant will protect your head and stop your brains from pouring out which would be, of course, a drag. Lazer O2 XC Mountain Bike Helmet

Lazer O2 XC Mountain Bike Helmet
Author James A. Michener has conceived and written an epic novel about the land we now know as Alaska. Using his characteristic writing style of starting at the very beginning (in this case, with native people living on the coastland we now know of as Eastern Russia) and then developing the story generation after generation through his rich and interesting characters, Michener tells the complete story of Alaska. The reader learns how Alaska was first settled, what animals first roamed its lands, what the native Inuit people were like in their unique culture and how they survived in the harsh environment, how the Americans bought the land from Russia, how the gold rush happened and what it was like for gold prospectors in the unforgiving winderness, and finally, it tells the story of the multi-ethnic peoples of Alaska, and this perhaps is Michener's strength in story-telling. Michener, as he has done in other novels, again proves his writing has a prophetic nature to it, as the last chapter details an earthquake in the Pacific Ocean that sends a Tsunami wall of water to assault the shore or Alaska, eerily reminiscient of the tsunami that devastated Sri Lanka recently.

Yes, the novel is long - over 1,000 pages, but it is still an absorbing page-turner. Each chapter is a mini-novel in itself and tells the story of a particular generation of people in Alaska's development. Michener has a knack of creating and developing characters that are both interesting and believable and this is his greatest strength as a writer. The reader comes to care about these fictious charcters as though they are living breathing realities, and in a sense, the charcters are "real", as Michener's painstaking research enabled him to form his charcters based on historical personages.

"Alaska" is a marvelous book, and for those that are into long sweeping novels, this is a book for you. It seems that Michener's writing style either fascinates or tries the patience of his readers. Michener goes into great detail in explaining the lives of his characters and some readers are impatient with his extensive prose and are apt to put his books down before finishing them. I happen to love his writing style and appreciate the detail, as it paints vivid word pictures in my mind. Michener is one of my favorite authors, for each of his books takes me to a particular place or culture, and it is as though I am actually viewing that culture, its people, and the land first-hand. I have learned a wealth of information about distant lands thanks to the writing of James A. Michener. These are places I may never visit in my life, but thanks to Michener, it is as though I have been there through his writing.

I most certainly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about the land and people of Alaska, or to one who is contemplating a trip to Alaska (the bok makes compelling reading even if you have no intention of going to Alaska!). Once you read Michener's "Alaska", you will have a tremendous appreciation for the hardships that the settlers endured to "tame" this great land. I guarantee you will always remember "Alaska" for the rest of your life.

              I highly recommend this book!

              Giro Hex Mountain Bike Helmet

              Giro Hex Mountain Bike Helmet
              Pros:

Air ventilation is truly excellent, fit is snug and comfortable, feels very light, the visor does not chatter in the wind, the helmet's design is fairly stylish.

              Cons:

The straps often need to be pushed away from the back of my ears, the rubber part of "overmolded arm" on the RocLoc system inside the helmet interferes with the back tips of my glasses.

The helmet is used mainly for my daily commute. The RocLoc system makes the helmet fit well but at the expense of not being able to wear sunglasses comfortably. I wanted to try the Giro brand after I wore out my excellent Bell X-Ray helmet. When this Giro Hex wears out I will replace it with a new Bell X-Ray.

              Product Description

The Giro Hex Mountain biking helmet features rugged style, big performance and impressive value. Features the new Roc Loc 5 fit system. After more than ten years of refinement, this ground-breaking fit system provides an entirely unique use experience with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Just twist the dial for a tighter feel on tough terrain, then back it off a notch and relax across the flats or a warm climb. Even with these remarkable features, Roc Loc 5 is still 40-percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4. Roc Loc 5 systems is: 1) Micro Dial. The heart of the Roc Loc 5 is this ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial. A simple, two-finger twist of the Micro Dial opens or closes the retention system and each click is audible. 2) Three-Position Vertical Fit - It's never been easier to change vertical positions and fine-tune fit. We incorporated a three-position bracket that features 15-millimeters of precise up/down movement. Like the Micro Dial, this system can be adjusted without removing the helmet. 3) Carefully crafted ergonomic arms are shaped to be as comfortable as possible, yet work flawlessly with Giro eyewear (what we call Super Fit engineering). 4) Dual Pods - These two panels are designed to firmly grasp the back of your head while comfortably cradling the occipital lobe. Strap management - with Roc Loc 5, your helmet straps are woven through the fit system, so they are always in the perfect position. Complex Internal Design - Dozens of small parts work together seamlessly to provide exceptionally user-friendly adjustment. Minimal and Light, yet Strong - Although this fit system is 40% lighter than its predecessor, it's much stronger. In testing, Roc Loc 5 performs flawlessly, even after 6,600 cycles (equivalent to 3 years of riding with 3 round trips per day).

              FOX Striker Helmet

              FOX Striker Helmet
Awesome helmet, keeps one's head cool.

              Con:

Little tight on the horns on your forehead if you have a normal shaped, sort of elongated head. Definitely built for a more round head because it's a bit wide looking on the skull as well. That's the only reason it gets 4 stars.

              Pros:

much more lightweight than an entry-level helmet.
perfect ventilation for hot summer riding
visor doesn't pop off due to its permanent attachment
will keep you from dying on a trail miles from help...

Also, the vent holes work perfecct for attaching a lightweight tactical light with a velcro strap or two for your rides at night.

Due to its shape I would give it a 3 1/2 if Amazon would let me.

Don't buy JUST 'cause its Fox, there are other lighter helmets.

BUT it will save your life...haha..so...

              Giro Aeon Road Bike Helmet

              Giro Aeon Road Bike Helmet
I tried many helmets and the Giro Aeon is the best I have ever found. It fits great with many adjustments. It's light (222 grams in medium), comfortable, and well ventilated. The workmanship is excellent, with quality straps and removable padding that can go through a washing machine. I'm on my second Aeon, the first one having done its job in a major crash, with the helmet staying firmly in place and absorbing the blow when my head hit the pavement. The Giro Aeon may cost a bit more than other helmets, but it is well worth the price. I encourage anyone considering a Giro Aeon to check the fit and measure carefully. I wear a large in most other helmets, but the Aeon medium fits perfectly.

              Product Description

Maximum ventilation, minimal weight and zero compromises. The Aeon marks a new era in helmet design. Starting with a full roster of our best features, we optimized the design of every component in the helmet and even the shape of the helmet iteself to reduce weight by 28% overall. Of course, we also sculpted massive vents with interior channeling for best-in-class cooling power and integrated the adjustability and comfort of Roc Loc 5, too. When you want a lighter helmet, a cooler helmet, a better helmet- this is the one.
